Blackwood signs All-State Libero |

February 12, 2008 OLYMPIA, Wash. - Head Coach Clay Blackwood has signed Chantal Petkus to the team for the 2008-09 school year. The 5'6" senior from Hanford High School in Richland, WA will be a welcome addition to the Geoducks roster as the teams Libero. Petkus has had an excellent prep career, having earned varsity letters the past three seasons. Blackwood is excited to have his first official signee since he's been at Evergreen. "My coaching staff and I were very impressed with Chantal on her visit to the college. She has great ball control and court sense defensively. She will also surprise people with her hitting ability". In 2007 Petkus was named to the the 3A All-State, 1st Team All-Area and 1st Team All-Columbia Basin League Libero Teams. Her Hanford High School team won the WA 3A State Volleyball title this past season. Petkus, a honor roll student, is looking forward to pursuing Pre-Law studies while attending Evergreeen. "I feel like the teaching environment at Evergreen will help me further my education to the fullest and playing volleyball is another plus. I think my versatility and passing ability can be a major asset to this team", says Petkus. |
