September 14 , 2007 ASHLAND, Oregon - After being forced to forfeit the seasons first two games last week due to injuries, Evergreen hit the court for play the first time this season at Southern Oregon University. The Geoducks, led by new head coach Clay Blackwood, played hard but in the end fell to the Raiders 30-12, 30-7, 30-14. "We forced SOU to take the first time out. Our team played their best tonight" said Blackwood over the phone. Evergreen had a sizeable disadvantage to SOU's team playing six players every minute of all three games. Strategically, teams often substitute their shorter players when it's their turn at the net during rotation. SOU tallied 41-kills on the night for a .500 hitting percentage as well as an outstanding number of 14 aces. Southern Oregon's Mia Wortel was on fire Friday night, nailing 12 kills on 14 attempts (.786 hitting percentage). Shanna Claflin (Grants Pass, Ore.) and Richelle Millsap added six and five kills for the Owls. Evergreen plays in Klamath Falls tomorrow night in a 7 PM game with OIT. |
