Geoducks Skid at Six

Salem, OR - Junior Nina Clanton recorded a match-high 11 kills in leading Corban College to a 3-game sweep (30-18, 30-27, 30-21) over The Evergreen State College on Saturday night in the second night of Evergreen's three-match weekend.

The Warriors came out with vengeance and cruised through the first game, thanks to a hitting percentage of .310. Corban notched 16 kills, while committing only three hitting errors, as they were led by junior Stacey Casebier's five kills.

In game two, the visiting Geoducks got out to a quick seven-point lead (12-5) before Corban went on a 7-0 run and tied the score at 12-apiece. From that point on, both teams traded points until junior Hallie McNaughton stepped behind the service line with Corban trailing by one point (27-26). McNaughton proceeded to serve two aces and the Warriors benefited from two Geoduck hitting errors en route to the three-point win (30-27).

In the third and final game, Corban seemed in control throughout as they jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead before allowing The Evergreen State College back into the game. Clanton put the Warriors on her back and thanks to her five kills, and a match-high team hitting percentage (.368), Corban pulled out the final game by nine points (30-21) and walked away with its first home victory of the season.

Mattie Blevens led The Evergreen State College with 10 kills, while Chelsea Jacobson and Elyse Johnston recorded 6 kills each. Jacobson led the Geoducks with 16 assists, while Kaylene Black anchored Evergreen's back line with 14 digs.

With the win, Corban improves to 3-7 overall, 3-3 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Evergreen State College falls to 0-5 overall, 0-5 in Cascade Collegiate play.
