September 24, 2004 PORTLAND, OR - Someone was bound to get their first conference win as the Evergreen and Cascade volleyball teams squared off in Portland, Oregon last night. It took a special performance from the Cascade freshman triumvirate of Jennifer Braceros, Grace Burt, and Tiffany Hornbeck to hold off the Geoducks in a 5 game thriller at the Thunderdome. The young T-Birds came away with their second overall win of the season while the Geoducks are still sitting with a solo victory. Evergreen was feeling confident after blowing the T-Birds off the court in game one 30-16 and held a 2-1 lead as they took game three 30-22. But Evergreen came out flat in game three as Cascade sprinted to a 13-1 advantage and back into the match behind vicious serving from Natalie Wilson. The Geoducks fought back to 28-22 on a Madeline Blevins ace, but kills from Braceros and Selvidge forced a 5th game. The deciding game was a back and forth affair, and was tied at 10-10. Two unforced Evergreen errors and a Burt kill sealed the victory for Cascade. The scores of the games were 16-30, 30-22, 22-30, 30-22, and 15-12. |
