November 5, 2004

Salem, OR - Sophomore hitter Kim Turin collected 19 kills and 11 digs as Western Baptist College defeated The Evergreen State College, 30-15, 30-28, 30-11, in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Friday night.

The Warriors (13-9, 11-6 CCC) put an end to a mild two-match losing skein by attacking at a 28 percent clip offensively. Middle blocker Kendra Mitchell also reached double digits with 11 kills for the home team.

The Geoducks (4-20, 1-16 CCC) were led offensively by the duo of Emily Peterson and Elyse Johnston who each issued eight kills. Evergreen attacked at 19 percent to nearly pull off a win in Game 2, but poor hitting in the other two contests resulted in a .025 percentage for the match.

Western Baptist recorded 11 blocks on the night paced by Turin with five. Libero Jamie Ruda had a match-high 14 digs for the Warriors, while Evergreen's Hanna Plunk picked up 10. Ashley Walbridge tallied three of WB's seven service aces and equaled her setting counterpart, Whitney Brookins, with 20 assists.

Western Baptist controlled Game 1 from the outset, racing to a 6-0 lead. The Warriors trailed 19-16 in Game 2 before using an 8-2 surge to take the lead. However, the hosts needed a terrific pass by Ruda and a Mitchell kill for the final tally in the two-point win. WB scored 19 of the final 22 points to cruise in Game 3.

Both teams conclude their conference slate on Saturday at 7 p.m. Western Baptist hosts Northwest University and Evergreen travels to Concordia University.
