OLYMPIA, WA -- Thirty-six kills by the Evergreen State College Women's Volleyball team does not truly tell the story of domination that the Geoducks inflicted upon the visiting Walla Walla Wolves.

Lead by team captain Courtney Brandon (Pomeroy, Wa/Pomeroy H.S.), Evergreen (1-4 CCC, 3-10 Overall) was in-charge the entire evening from the opening serve, beating Walla Walla (4-5 Overall) in three games (30-12, 30-13, 30-14).

"They were not as weak as we made them look," said Evergreen State head volleyball coach Bill Lash. "We were on a mission tonight and had a complete team effort."

Besides leading the team with 10 kills on 14 attempts (.643%), Brandon served for fourteen straight points in the open game that put the Geoducks ahead 17-6. Freshman Kristen Bartley (Lubbock, Tx/Monterey, H.S.) ended the lopsided game with six uncontested services.

The other two matches played out in much the same fashion. Honors for the most service aces on the night went to Evergreen State freshman Elyse Johnston (Elko, Nv/Elko H.S.). Although she played in only two of the three games, she lead all players with six service aces.

"We are playing with a lot more confidence on the court," remarked Bartley. "We have become good friends and have found our team chemistry."

From the onset, the Geoducks appeared to be a step quicker to the ball. At the net they blocked 10 Walla Walla attacks, while never having to face rejected on their own attacks. The only points they lost on kill attempts was due to hitting errors, eight in all.

Defensive the standout for Evergreen was freshman Lindsay Harn (Astoria, Ore/Astoria H.S.). Though all three contest she denied Walla Walla kill after kill, by repeatedly diving on the hardwood floor to dig out the hard attacks.

Friday night, the volleyball team will go for their third win in a row, an accomplishment that has not happened in the programs short two-year history.

The contest against visiting Eastern Oregon (0-6 CCC, 2-7 Overall) is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. "A win tomorrow night (Friday)," added coach Lash, "will put us in good standing when we play Albertson on Saturday night."
