Geoduck Volleyball Signs Brandon |

June 8, 2001 OLYMPIA, WA -- With the anticipation of the first intercollegiate volleyball season just two months away, The Evergreen State College has announced the signing of Courtney Brandon, a middle blocker from Pomeroy, Wash. The junior transfer from Walla Walla Community College looks to become a dominate force in the middle of the Geoducks front line after a stellar junior college career. In 2000, she lead WWCC to a fifth-place finish in the NWAACC tournament, and a school-record 26-13 mark. During her two years at WWCC, the six-foot Brandon rewrote the Warriors record books with 145 single-season and 227 career blocks, earning All-NWAACC honors as a sophomore. Geoduck head coach Bill Lash landed Brandon out of a pool of five other schools - Montana State-Billings, Alaska-Fairbanks, Colorado Christian, Northern Colorado, and Cascade Conference rival, Albertson. "Courtney is a great player and leader on the court," said WWCC head coach Tim Toon. "She could have played at a lot of four-year schools, but wanted to live in Western Washington." In high school, Brandon was an All-Blue Mountain League and All-State selection at Pomeroy High, a Class "B" school in southeastern Washington. "Courtney Brandon is an awesome addition to our program," said Lash. "She will play middle for us right way." Evergreen will begin play Aug. 31 at defending Cascade Conference champion, Concordia. The first-ever home match is scheduled for Sept. 7, when the Clams host Northwest College at 7 p.m. |
