Evergreen drops match to Albertson

October 27, 2001

Olympia, WA - The Geoducks closed out the home part of their schedule with a loss to Albertson College. Evergreen played the 'Yotes (15-9, 10-5) tough, but could not overcome their own mistakes.

Evergreen had opportunities to get points, they had 148 attacks, but only managed 40 kills. The 'Yotes defense dug a lot of attacks that should have been kills. Evergreen also played tough defense, digging 45 of Albertson's 127 attacks, but errors proved costly on the offensive side of the net for Evergreen. Geoduck coach Bill Lash was pleased with the effort, but knows what the team needs to do to win. "We played hard, but again, mental mistakes and errors cost us the game," said Lash.

After losing the first two games of the match 30-13, 30-19, the Geoducks won the next game 30-20 and looked to be gaining momentum. That momentum carried into the start of the fourth game, but 18 'Yote kills and five service aces turned the tide against the Geoducks as Albertson went on to win 30-24.

The Geoducks were led by Courtney Brandon (Pomeroy, Wash. / Walla Walla CC) who had 11 kills and two solo blocks. Evergreen freshman setter Hanna Plunk (Broomfield, Colo. / Broomfield HS) had 21 assists to go along with three service aces.

Evergreen will take a trip to southern Oregon to finish off the regular season next weekend. The Geoducks will face Oregon Tech on Friday night and Southern Oregon University on Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
