Woods Leads Evergreen to an Individual Win and Two Conference Qualifiers
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Darren Woods earned an individual win in the 400m at Saturday's Linfield College Erik Anderson Memorial Ice Breaker, seting a qualifying mark for the Cascade Conference Chamionships in May. Woods debuted for Evergreen in his first competition in two years, cleaning out the cobwebs with a 51.18. His excellent performance is likely the first of many to follow. "Woods is a tripple threat who excels in sprints from the 100m to the 400m, and will contribute immensely to both relays," says sprints coach Curtis Norwood.
Teammate Connor Abdelnoor also set a Conference qualifying mark in the 110m Hurdles with a 17.06. His performance set a new school record for that event. Connor also competed in the 200m, running a 24.4 and setting a personal best in that event.
Other notable performances for Evergreen were freshman Sebastian Lasbo, running his first collegiate 1500m in 4:28.27. Lasbo doubled for the day with the 800m, running a 2:14.04. Alexander Combs-Bachmann set new personal bests in the 100m and 200m running 12.31 and 24.82 respectively. Jumper Jordan Turner tried out the 100m also, running alongside Combs-Bachmann and crossing the line a hair behind in 12.32.
Tyler Luce showed his mettle in the 5k, taking the lead early on and pushing the pace relentlessly throughout the race, eventually finishing 4th in his heat in 16:47.66. Nicolas Pace was close behind, running an 18:07.50. Both set personal bests in the event, even after both ran PR's in the 1500m earlier in the meet.
Melissa Crumb represented for the Evergreen Women, running a personal best of 35.37 in the 200m.
