Busy and Successful Weekend of Track and Field for Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Two School records and a national qualifier highlight a weekend of events for Evergreen Track and Field.
Freshman Karissa Carlson finished fourth in the women's 1500 meter event at University of Puget Sounds Shotwell Classic Track and Field Invitational to break her own school record set last weekend. Carlson, who is from Pateros, WA ran the metric mile in 5:01.61 and finished just behind her older sister Krinda who attends Saint Martin's University.
Another top finisher for Evergreen, Sophomore Ryan Lara (Franklin Pierce) tied for fifth in the men's 400 meters in a time of 51.90.
At Friday evening's Willamette Invitational meet in Salem, Oregon, Ana Casillas (Bellarmine Prep) set a new school record in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 18:32.56. Casillas broke the previous record by 16 seconds. Two Evergreen Track and Field Team members will attempt a qualifying mark for the NAIA Championships Marathon tomorrow in Portland, Oregon.
Eric Jones ran the Run For The Roses Half Marathon this morning in Portland, Oregon, finishing in a time of 1:14:20.0. His time was well under the NAIA "B" standard and just 20 seconds shy of the "A" standard for the Marathon.
Half marathon marks can be used to qualify for the marathon held at the May Track and Field Championships held in St. Louis, MO. Jones can represent the Geoducks with the "B" standard.
The Geoducks next track and field meet will be the Warner Pacific College Pacific Northwest Relays next Friday in Portland, Oregon.
