April 19, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. - Five Cascade Conference Teams took part in the Warner Pacific Mini Track and Field Meet Friday evening. At the meet, which features a scaled down schedule, Evergreen's women placed third with just two competitors and the men placed 4th.
The weather held to cool and breezy conditions, which was good compared to the snow falling in many parts of the northwest.
Ana Casillas and Lindsey Farah placed no worse than second in the two events they entered to combine for 32 points. Some team members competed at Central Washington University's meet today.
In the women's 100 meters, Farah placed second in 13.5 in her season's debut at the event. Farah doubled back to win the 200 meters in 27.62. Casillas opened with a second place in the 1500 meters in 5:14.84 and second in the 3000 meters running 11:17, her best of the season.
Jason Shoemaker and Alex Combs-Bachman both had seasons bests in the 200 meters. Shoemaker placed 7th (24.25) and Combs-Bachmann 12th (26.07).
In the men's 1500 meters, Miguel Pineda took control of a slowing pace to drive to a 8 second win in 4:07.47.
Evergreen put together their first men's 4 x 800 meter relay, placing second to a strong WPC team and well ahead of Cascade. The team of Brian Rakestraw, Ryan Lara, Liam Rockwell and Pineda set a time of 8:30.34. The time will set the standard for the school record books.
Brian Rakestraw won the men's 3000 meters with a strong last 600 meter kick. His time of 9:06.04 is Rakestraws second best for the event.
At today's Spike Arlt Invitational at Central Washington University, Emily Uhlig was just 3 seconds off of the NAIA National Championships "B" qualifying standard for the 3000 meter steeplechase. A personal best and her first time under 12:00, Uhlig's time of 11:50.80 will be the new school record.
