Kelly BeckhamMay 4, 2007

In the last regular season meet for the Geoduck thinclads, Kelly Beckham knocked 18 seconds off the previous 3,000 meter school record last night at the UW Ken Shannon Invitational. Her time of 10:48.05 bettered the previous best of 11:07 set by teammate Emily Uhlig earlier this season.

Beckham and teammate Diann Leo were scheduled to compete in the 5,000 meters but were moved to the 3k following a late meet schedule change.

Other Evergreen competitors included Leo in the 3,000 meters (11th, 12:38), Emily Uhlig in the 1500 meters (11th, 5:15), Eric Jones in the men's 1500 meters (19th, 4:22) and James Hudson in the 5,000 meters (13th, 16:15).

Evergreen will send 10 competitors to the Cascade Conference Championships in La Grande, OR this Friday and Saturday. A number of Geoducks are ranked well in the conference. Beckham is ranked 10th in the 1,500 meters and 8th in the 5,000 meters. Uhlig and Kelsey Blair are ranked 3rd and 5th respectively in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase. Brian Rakestraw is ranked 9th in the 5,000 meters and 4th in the 10,000 meters with James Hudson ranked 9th in the 10k as well.

Two veterans will be unable to compete in La Grande, Jason McConnell, ranked 5th in the 10,000 and national qualifier in the marathon, suffered a broken toe last month. Miguel Pineda, who finished 7th in the 800 meters at last years championships, is nursing an ankle injury.
