Ellensburg, WA--Evergreen track competed at the Spike Arlt Invitational at Central Washington University on Saturday in weather that was everything from calm and overcast to blustery with driving rain.
The Geoducks got a personal best performance from Rachel Williams in the 3000 meters, as she dropped her time by 27 seconds. Williams recorded a 11:49 ranking her ninth in the current Cascade Conference in the event. Williams also has the conference's 16th best time in the 5,000 meters.
James Hudson made his debut in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and showed that this may be the strong event for him in the future. His 10:35.7 is the 2nd fastest by a Geoduck and ranks him 5th in the conference. James also placed 20th in the 5,000 meters.
Frosh Patrick Murphy ran 5:07.5 in the 1500 meters in his debut at the distance. Robert Martindale, competing unattached, set a personal best in the same event of 4:51.80 and Joel Pearson, also unattached was clocked at 4:32.20.
Liesl Plomski ran a tick off her season's best in the 800 meters in 2:45.8
Evergreen entered five runners in the men's 5,000 meters with 3 of them unattached. Miguel Pineda, a redshirt frosh, ran a gutsy first ever attempt at the distance by staying with the first pack through the first mile in 5:05. He was then left to face the headwinds of no-man-land until a chase pack led by Joel Pearson and James Hudson caught up to him in the final laps.
The Geoducks will head to track mecca Oregon University this week as they participate in the Oregon Track and Field Invitational at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR April 20-22.
