Chambers Breaks Long Standing Metric Mile School Record! Geoducks Looking Good In Conference Standings.

Saturday April 17, 2004

ELLENSBURG, WA -- Evergreen Track and Field athletes started off the day strong and finished with some changes to the school record books. The squad of spike shoed Geoducks traveled over the Cascades for the Spike Arlt Invitational hosted by Central Washington University.

Josh Klimek earned Evergreen eight points with his second place finish in the 10,000 meter run. His time of 33:56 was his second best time in the event following his 33:35 effort the weekend before at the George Fox University Distance Carnival.

Liesl Plomski, the lone female competitor for Evergreen, doubled in the 800 meters and the 1500 meters. She placed 19th in the 800 in a personal best of 2:34.43. Her 5:28.15 1500 time earned 20th place.
Robert Martindale tried his hand at the sprint events and competed in the 100 meters finishing 31st in 13.44.

The leading Evergreen performance of the day was by Nathan Chambers in the men's 1500 meters.

Chambers erased Eric Jackson's 1994 college record of 4:12.0 posting a 4:07.24 while setting a five second personal best. Chambers moved well in the last lap to pass several runners and finish 10th overall.

Evergreen looks poised to have some All-Conference honors at the Cascade Conference Championship on May 8th in Klamath Falls, OR. Chambers and Klimek have several top-10 placings in the current Conference rankings between them. Chambers is ranked 10th in the 1500 meters, 4th in the 3,000 meters steeplechase and 6th in the open 3,000 meters (not contested at Conference or National Championships). Klimek is ranked 4th in the 10,000 meters, 8th in the 5,000 meters and 2nd in the 3,000 meters. For the women, Plomski has the highest ranking thus far at 15th place in the 800 meters.

The next competition for Evergreen Track will be the Western Washington Univ. Twilite Meet on April 30th.
