John Purtteman took control of the Evergreen men’s soccer program in 2006, following two years as an assistant coach. A 1985 graduate of The Evergreen State College, Purtteman has compiled a career record of 39-43-12 in seven seasons, earning Cascade Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012. In additions to his responsibilities as a coach, Purtteman is also in charge of compliance for the Geoducks.

Prior to Evergreen, John served as head coach at South Puget Sound Community College following a professional playing career across the country. After twice being named Evergreen MVP, Purtteman played for the Portland Pride, Seattle Seadogs, Florida Thundercats and Denver Thunder, twice being named to the Continental Indoor Soccer League All-Star team.

At SPSCC, John led the Clippers to a 15-5-3 record in 2004, taking the team to the NWAACC finals.

In addition to his work with the men’s team, John also headed up the women’s program from 2007-2009. He has also served as coaching director of the South Sound Select youth program, as well as head coach of the Tacoma Stars Indoor Soccer Team.

John and his wife Sonja live in Olympia with their son.
