Originally from Montesano, WA, Coach Jason McConnell has been involved in local long distance running for nearly ten years, including four years as an athlete and three years as a coach at The Evergreen State College.

McConnell started his coaching experience as an assistant coach with Evergreen's Cross Country and Track and Field  Team while pursuing post-graduate work in education.  After completing a year of graduate school, he transitioned from teaching into coaching full-time.  As an athlete at Evergreen McConnell qualified for the 2007 NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the Marathon.  As an assistant coach, Jason worked under former head coach Craig Dickson, who was in turn mentored by coaching legend Joe Vigil.

As a Track and Field Coach, Jason is comming into a young program with much potential.   Track and Field was orignially a sport at Evergreen begining in 1984.  However, the sport was prematurely cut shortly thereafter in 1988.  In 2002 the team was brought back as a distance-only program.  Since the team's reincarnation as a varsity sport at Evergreen in 2004, the team has seen great success.  Sprints, throws, and other field events are slowly gathering momentum, adding to an already talented distance squad.  Since 2006, Evergreen Track has had a total of 8 individual qualifiers for the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in distance events.  In 2010, McConnell looks to add more student athletes to that list.
