Light's Out for Beacon's as Geoducks in 2-0 Snuff Out
October 9, 2009
OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Evergreen State College Geoducks shut-out the Beacon's of Northwest Christian University 2-0 to win their third conference game of the season and improving their record to 3-2-1 in the CCC and 3-3-2 overall.
During an aggressive game that saw six yellow cards split evenly between the teams, Geoduck Chris Miller (Thomas Jefferson HS) scored first. Miller found an open shot twenty minutes into the second half and put a lot of heat behind his high, right side of the net shot from thirty yards out.
Nine minutes later ESC's Mirza Memic (Newport HS) was open on the right when John Theofolis (Kennedy HS) fed him the ball from the center. Memic, who had 5 shots in the game, punched the ball into the net from the right of the penalty box past Beacon keeper Stephen Melgar (Dexter, OR) for the game winner.
The Beacons fall to 1-8-1 overall and winless in the conference. Tomorrow the Geoducks host a tough team from Oregon Tech (6-4-1, 3-3-1 CCC) at 4 PM at Geoduck stadium.
