September 25, 2009

CALDWELL, Idaho - Spencer Ward flicked home the tying goal with just seven seconds remaining in regulation, as The College of Idaho and The Evergreen State College played to a 1-1 draw in this afternoon's Cascade Conference men's soccer match-up at Simplot Stadium.

Inside the final minute, Geoducks (2-1-2, 2-0-1 CCC) keeper Nathan Salveson tipped away a Zach Veasy header, but on the resulting corner kick, Kazuki Murata sent a ball into the box that Jesus Lopez touched to Ward, who found the net as the final countdown had begun, to knot the score.

Evergreen got on the board first in the 23rd minute, as Merza Memic converted a penalty kick after a found in the box by the Coyotes (2-2-1, 2-0-1).

The two teams combined for five shots in the extra time, but neither team had a serious scoring threat.

The draw ended a 14-match CCC win streak for The C of I with the Geoducks ending their second longest win streak in league history.

Evergreen is on the road this weekend, playing Warner Pacific College (3-1 CCC, 4-3) in Portland Saturday at 1:00 PM.
