OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen's season ends as Northwest University advances to the Cascade Conference Tournament after defeating the Geoducks in Olympia 2-1 today.
Northwest scored 17 minutes in when Luke Fischer followed a loose ball rolling towards Evergreen's goal. Geoduck keeper Matt Stalnik (Kasilof, AK) snatched up the ball and attempted a quick kick to clear the ball. Unfortunately the ball came off Stalnik's foot wrong and the ball dropped to the ground allowing Fischer to get a foot on the ball and put it in the net.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half the Eagles scored again. Everett Adams' shot rebounded off an ESC defender with Tim Starr following up with the goal. Adams gets the assist on the goal.
In the second half Evergreen scored in the 60th minute when Matt Curry punched in a rebound off his own blocked shot. It was the 4th goal of the season for Curry.
Evergreen had some close attempts at goals, put the pressure on the remainder of the game, but in the end they ran out of time to make it a tie game.
The Geoducks end their season with a 4-7 conference record and an overall record of 5-12. Northwest also finishes with a 4-7 record in the conference and based on their sweep of the Geoducks this season, will advance to the Cascade Conference Tournament.
