Evergreen Outshot in Their 1-0 Loss to Warner Pac
October 25, 2008
OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Knights of Warner Pacific College let loose 25 shots today to the Geoducks 9 as they defeated Evergreen 1-0 in conference play. Evergreen will host Northwest University Tuesday afternoon in their final regular season game. The Geoducks will need the win or tie to secure a spot in the Cascade Conference Tournament which opens up with first round play on November 1st.
Early in the game, Warner's Chris Price put his team on the scoreboard first for what would be the game winning goal. Following Alija Sacirovic's shot that bounced off the crossbar, Price found an opening close in to the net. The goal was Price's seventh for the season and Sacirovic was credited with the assist.
The Knights had 16 attempts in the first period while the Geoducks were forced to defend their side of the field and had just 4 attempts.
Evergreen close attempts at goals happened just before the first period and late in the second half. Corey Johnson (Longview, WA), who had 3 goals Saturday, kicked a low shot that curved the wrong direction at the last instant. Matt Curry (Mt. Vernon, WA) had an opening with seven minutes remaining following a cross from Farrow, but the ball went off his foot wrong and went over the crossbar.
For Warner, Price tried a series of identical cross passes to teammate Sacirovic that missed the mark or missed the foot. Each missed attempt drew groans from the Warner bench, who more than likely worried about a tie game as Evergreen made a few threats to do so.
Matt Stalnik, Evergreen's keeper, was kept busy throughout the game and had 6 saves. Warner's goalie, Ted Latta had 2 saves.
The Geoducks record stands at 4-7 in the conference and 5-11 overall. Warner improves to 8-4 in the CCC and 12-5.
Tuesday's game with Northwest University begins at 4:00 PM.
