Yotes Start Game With Guns Blazing as They Defeat Evergreen 2-1
September 26, 2008
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Yote players took 13 shots in the first period to immediately put Evergreen on the defense in today's 2-1 loss. The College of Idaho handed Evergreen their second conference loss of the season and the team extends their loss streak to three.
CI, now 3-0 in conference play, kept Evergreen keeper Nate Salveson busy with a barrage of shots in the first period of the game. While up front the Geoducks had a difficult time finding the net, the defense held strong despite today's loss.
Antonio Bautista scored first for Idaho twelve minutes into the game. His unassisted goal came on a breakaway that caught Evergreen off guard, allowing Bautista to snake around defenders to tap the ball into the net.
The Yotes kept up their attacks, especially by player Garga Caserta, who fired 5 long shots in the first period.
Evergreen had just 3 shots in the first half as they went into the break down 1-0.
At the beginning of the second half, Bautista earned his second goal of the season. Chasing a loose ball rolling towards Evergreen's goal and firing a low shot to the right of Salveson's reach.
The Geoducks had their chances, keeping the Yotes on the defensive for a good chunk of the second period.
Matt Curry had three shots in the game and was able to find a space between the keeper and the post at the 58th minute following an inside pass by Obed Kouassi. It was Curry's second goal of the season.
Evergreen was unable to keep the momentum going however and Idaho held on for the win.
The Geoducks are on the road next week, playing Cascade College in Portland Friday at 2:00 PM.
