Geoducks Fall 1-0 in Their First Conference Game of Season

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University defeated Evergreen 1-0 tonight to get their second straight Cascade Conference win and remain undefeated in conference play, and on top of the conference's North Division with a 2-0 record.

Evergreen slips to a 1-5 overall record and 0-1 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, junior Brandon Screen scored the game winner for Northwest U. (4-2-2, 2-0 CCC) at the 56:40 mark off an assist from teammate Tim Starr.

It was Screen's third goal in two games as he scored two goals on Wednesday night in NU's victory over Corban College.

Northwest out shot Evergreen State 11 to 5 and Evergreen goalkeeper, Matt Stalnik (Kasilof, AK) collected 4 saves on the night.

NU goalie, Kyle Wall earned the shut out with one save for the contest, his second consecutive shut out this week.

Northwest head coach Gary McIntosh commented following the game. "Give Evergreen credit, they never quit playing. For us to win 1-0 is a good test of composure and character for the guys and they handled it well tonight. It seemed right from the beginning we would have to find a way to grind out a win,"

The Geoducks host The College of Idaho Friday at 4 PM in their second conference game of the season.
