OLYMPIA, Wash. - Corey Johnson (FR Longview, WA / Mark Morris High School ) scored a hat trick in today's game with Walla Walla University as the team won 8-0. Johnson moves into the Geoduck All-Time Top 3 list of goals scored in a game.
Johnson scored the first of his three goals just after the 3 minutes into the game. Walla Walla's keeper, Kevin Torres, who was filling in for the Wolves injured goalie, was easily faked out by Johnson who dribbled in close before lightly tapping the ball in.
Totalling 5 goals so far this season, Johnson added two more in the game before the first half was over. All of Johnson's goals were unassisted.
Walla Walla had a tough time getting the ball to stay on Evergreen's end of the field, shooting the ball just 5 times with 3 shots on goal. Despite his inexperience in the goal, Torres was able to record 6 saves in the game.
Jesse Wheelock (SR, Kent, WA / White River HS) also scored in the first half assisted by Matt Curry (SR, Mt. Vernon, WA / Mt. Vernon HS) and Curry scored as well assisted by Shawn Farrow (SR, Lakewood, WA / Clover Park HS).
In the second half Farrow knocked one in following a nice feed near the net from James Pratt (SR, Bellevue, WA / Bellevue HS). Brian Davis (JR, Seattle, WA / Mt. Rainier HS) used his height advantage to knock in a header with 14 minutes remaining. Eight minutes later Davis scored again off of a corner kick by Wes Magyar (SO, Hutchinson, KS) who was credited with the assist.
Sunday Evergreen plays at home in a 11:00 AM game with Embry-Riddle University (AZ).
