Six Geoducks tally eight points in today’s 8-1 win

October 26, 2007

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Evergreen heads into tomorrow's match with Corban College after an uplifting win today. The Geoducks defeated visiting Northwest Christian College 8-1, the second time the team has beaten the Beacons this season.

Shawn Farrow scored first in the game, beating defenders and the goal keeper to sink a shot twenty yards out. It would be Farrow's first goal of the day, later scoring again to tally 10 goals in the season.

Local freshman, Steven Sharp (Capital HS) scored his third goal of the season twenty minutes in. Sharp's goal was a high, arching shot that snuck inches under the cross bar. The Beacon's keeper either lost view of the ball in the crowd or assumed wrongly the shot was high as he did not move an inch until the ball touched net.

A minute later Stephen Laughlin scored his second goal of the season with an assist by Ryan Mulnick. Laughlin would fill in for Matt Stalnik between the posts the second half. Farrow scored again and James Pratt, who has been out the majority of the season with an injury, scored with an assist going to Sharp to round out Geoduck point in the first half.

For Northwest Christian, Andrew Burkhart saved the Beacon's from a shut out with a well played goal in front of Evergreen's box. It was the first goal of the season for Burkhart. The Beacon's have played with a limited roster this season, often with just ten players on the field.

In the second half, Ryan Mulnick scored his third goal of the season, Eduardo Millan capitalized on a penalty kick for his sixth goal of '07 and Pratt again scored in the eightieth minute.

The Geoducks are currently 6-10-1 overall this season and stand fifth of eight teams in the Cascade Conference. A NAIA Region I playoff spot would appear unlikely at this time for Evergreen who will play their final regular season match at 1:00 PM.
