Matt StalnikPORTLAND, Ore. – For the second time this season, Evergreen goal keeper Matt Stalnik has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. His selection comes on the heels of a win and a loss last week for the team in which he played outstanding in both games.

A week ago today, Evergreen beat Cascade College 5-0. A game in which Stalnik saved all three of the Thunderbirds shots on goal. In last Saturday’s loss to The College of Idaho, Stalnik tallied 13 saves as the team lost a close 2-1 battle that lasted into the second overtime.

Stalnik moved to #2 in the Evergreen record books under the "Most Saves in a Game" category.

Evergreen has four regular season games remaining, including tomorrow’s 4 PM match with Warner Pacific at Evergreen. Unlike the women’s schedule, the Cascade Conference does not have a tournament. Instead, teams in the conference advance on their ranking and Longo ratings into the NAIA Region I Tournament.

Currently in fifth place in the conference, the Geoducks have an outside chance of advancing to the tournament. A win tomorrow would help. Evergreen lost to WPC in early September 1-2 in overtime.
