Stalnik again honored with Player of the Week award
October 17, 2007
PORTLAND, Ore. For the second time this season, Evergreen goal keeper Matt Stalnik has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. His selection comes on the heels of a win and a loss last week for the team in which he played outstanding in both games.
A week ago today, Evergreen beat Cascade College 5-0. A game in which Stalnik saved all three of the Thunderbirds shots on goal. In last Saturdays loss to The College of Idaho, Stalnik tallied 13 saves as the team lost a close 2-1 battle that lasted into the second overtime.
Stalnik moved to #2 in the Evergreen record books under the "Most Saves in a Game" category.
Evergreen has four regular season games remaining, including tomorrows 4 PM match with Warner Pacific at Evergreen. Unlike the womens schedule, the Cascade Conference does not have a tournament. Instead, teams in the conference advance on their ranking and Longo ratings into the NAIA Region I Tournament.
Currently in fifth place in the conference, the Geoducks have an outside chance of advancing to the tournament. A win tomorrow would help. Evergreen lost to WPC in early September 1-2 in overtime.
