Simon Fraser overpowers Evergreen in road game
October 8, 2007
BURNABY, B.C. - The ninth ranked (NAIA) Simon Fraser University Clan posted a 3-0 win over Evergreen Geoducks last night.
With the loss the Geoducks fall to 4-7-1 while the Clan improves to 11-1-1 on the season.
Simon Fraser scored their first goal in the third minute. Looking like they were practicing corner kick drills, SFU finally capitalized on their third straight corner kick to start the game, when Colin Streckmann made a successful cross to Luca Bellisomo, who headed it past Evergreen keeper Matt Stalnik.
After missing a game due to a mild concussion, Lucas Barrett picked up right where he left off, scoring two goals in the game. Barrett scored his first goal in the 38th minute.
Simon Fraser continued to apply the pressure in the first half, however great chances by Barrett and Justin Carvery were sent wide and high, while Stalnik was forced on a number of occasions to make saves to keep Evergreen in the game.
Barrett added the clincher in the 70th minute, after Chivers fired a shot on goal from the keeper's left. Stalnik made the initial save, but Barrett was left untouched with the rebound, beating Stalnik and giving the Clan a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Geoducks had 2 shots on goal to SFU's 9. Stalnik, who did a great job tending goal with six saves, was force to hand the loss to SFU's keeper.
Evergreen returns to action on the 10th in a 4 PM Wednesday game at Cascade College.
