This time Albertson wins. 3-1

October 14, 2006

OLYMPIA , WA - Evergreen's men's team had beaten the Yotes in Idaho last month 2-0 and were looking for a repeat victory today at home. It was not to be as Albertson came to play and Evergreen's inspired moments were few and far between.

Head coach John Purtteman was disappointed but realistic following the game, 'Albertson is playing better as the season progresses, they have a better overall record than we do and have become one of the strongest teams in the conference.

Both teams were well match throughout most of the first period. Evergreen took 4 shots on the goal while Albertson aimed 5. It took until the 37 th minute for the first game point to post.

Kazuki Murata of the Yotes placed a corner kick to Jesus Lopez for the first goal of the game.

Evergreen answered 2 minutes later when Ryan Mulnick passed a ball deep to Johnathon Willoughby. Willoughby dribbled past defenders to the end line before backing up to create enough space to send the ball past the Albertson keeper into the far corner of the net.

The period ended at 2-1 in Albertson's favor following a goal by Antonio Bautista with an assist by Mitch White.

Early in the second period the Geoducks tried hard to get back on the board with shot attempts by James Pratt and Matt Curry and team pressure on Albertson's defense. Albertson answered by countering with attacks and by 20 minutes to go they seemed to have control of the game.

With 11 minutes left in the game, Albertson sunk Evergreen's hopes of a tie game when Alex Penrod pounded in a shot from in front of the goal following a corner kick.

Evergreen men's soccer will remain at home this week and play Concordia University Thursday at 3:00 PM.
