Evergreen wins first game of Zoske Classic

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Coach John Purtemann was a happy man today. His young team defeated NAIA ranked Region I rival Simon Fraser 1 - 0.

Ranked #21 in the 2006 NAIA pre-season polls, Simon Fraser had a record of 14-4-1 in 2005 and finished 5 th overall in the NAIA after earning a berth to the National Championships.

The team worked for each other today. Simon Fraser pressured us but our defense held commented Head Coach Purtemann. Purtemann had high praise for his freshman members of the team, They are a special group.

Both teams were well matched. Simon Fraser taking 10 shots in the game and Evergreen putting up 9. Sean Grisham of Evergreen led the team with 3 shots and 2 shots on goal.

Ljubomir Acimovic led Simon Fraser in stats, credited with 4 shots and 2 shots on goal.

The Geoducks goal happened 15 minutes into the 2nd period when a quick-reacting Eric Jasman followed a shot that had rebounded off of SFU's goal keeper. It was the first goal of the season for Jasman.

Evergreen now stands at 1-2-0 for the season. Tomorrow they play The University of British Columbia at 5:00 PM.

Day 2 action for the men's portion of the Zoske Classic will start with Simon Fraser vs Corban College at 3:00 PM.
