OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Fresh off their first national tournament appearance, the Evergreen men's soccer team start the 2005 season ranked ninth in the opening NAIA national ranking. It is the highest the Geoducks have ever been placed in a national poll.

Evergreen finished the 2004 regular season receiving votes as a top-twenty five team and then advance to the quarterfinals of the National Tournament, beating top-ranked Rio Grande along the way, to garner the early ranking in 2005.

Morningside College, the team Evergreen defeated 4-1 to open this season, was picked 19th in the opening poll.

Conference rival, Concordia University, though picked first by coaches in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, received votes as a top team nationally but failed to make it into the elite group.
