Geoducks Topple Vikings 4-2 |

September 18, 2005 OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Western Washington Vikings found The Evergreen State College Geoducks too much to handle in today's intra-state match as Evergreen handed Western a 4-2 loss in Olympia. Western, a NCAA Division II program, surrendered three first half goals to three different Geoducks. Freshman Ryan Kuffler struck first in the 15 th minute when he buried a Jordan Saxman corner to put Evergreen in front. Defender Kyle Andrews extended the lead at the 33 minute mark as he dribbled two defenders and slotted a near post shot past Viking goalkeeper Ben Dragaron. Western struck back with less than seven minutes to go in the half as Filomon Afenegus deflected a shot off an Evergreen defender and past goalkeeper Sean Oliver. But Evergreen shattered the comeback attempt when Ryan Day scored off the ensuing kickoff taking a two goal lead into the half. Afenegus scored again for the Vikings twelve minutes into the second period putting a Gus Zadra pass behind back-up goalkeeper Ryan Riley. But Ryan Kuffler put the game to rest scoring the final goal of the day 12 minutes later. Kuffler half-mooned a defender to put himself behind the Viking defense and then out-raced the rest of the Vikings to goal and beat goalkeeper Ben Dragaron with a near-post shot. The win moves Evergreen to 4-1-0 on the year. The Vikings drop to 1-7-1. Evergreen returns to action this Tuesday in Kirkland, Washington as they open conference play against Northwest University. The Geoducks' next home match is Friday as they host rival Albertson College at 5:00 p.m. |
