CAMAS, Wash.—The third time didn't prove to be the charm for the Evergreen men's soccer team. The Concordia Cavaliers defeated the Geoducks for the third straight time this season as the two teams faced off in the NAIA Region I tournament. The 2-0 win for Concordia exacts a measure of revenge for the Cavaliers' loss to the Geoducks in last year's Region I tournament.

Concordia netted twice in the first fifteen minutes of the contest to put Evergreen on its heels. The first strike came courtesy of Mirzet Sacirovic who has tallied two goals and two assists against Evergreen this season. Sacirovic settled a Johnny Peru cross in the 8th minute, beat a Geoduck defender and laced a left-footed shot past Evergreen's Sean Oliver for the game-winner.

Just seven minutes later the Cavaliers stretched the lead with Peru and Josh Carlson penetrating the right side of the Evergreen defense. Carlson sent a cross to Jorge Arreguin who settled the pass in the Geoduck penalty area, weaved his way through traffic and tallied his fifth goal of the season.

Evergreen mounted a comeback attempt in the second half but was unable to crack the Concordia defense. The Geoducks attempted 11 shots to Concordia's eight, and held a nine to one advantage in corner kicks but couldn't convert.

The inability to find a consistent scoring threat proved to be the downfall of a team otherwise considered more talented than last season's squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament. The Geoducks leading scorer, Trevor Jacka, tallied 10 goals this season. That total would have placed him third in scoring on last season's team behind Joe Gjertsen (23 goals) and Nathan Ford (14 goals).

The loss likely ends the Geoducks' season, though there is an outside chance the team could receive an at-large bid to the national tournament. The Geoducks are 13-6 for the year and are ranked 34th in the country.
