SALEM, Ore. -- On a muddy and rain-soaked Warrior Field, the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College dropped the Corban Warriors 3-1 to solidify their spot in the Region I Tournament next weekend.
The first half of the game was played in torrential downpour forcing the players to contend with cold and muddy conditions. Despite the state of the field, the Warriors could not disrupt a quicker Evergreen team that scored three unanswered goals.
Greg Preciado struck first in the 12 th minute to give the Geoducks the first-half lead and Trevor Jacka and Jonathan Willoughby scored goals six minutes apart early in the second-half to salt the game away.
Quinn Neely scored the Warriors' lone goal in the 74 th minute to spoil the Evergreen shutout.
With the win Evergreen improves to 13-5-0 overall, 9-3 in CCC play. The Geoducks are lurking just outside the nation's top 25 and may receive an at-large berth to the national tournament regardless of the outcome of the Region I tournament.
Evergreen, the defending Region I champions, will play their first match of the regional tournament against host Concordia University Friday, Nov. 4 th . The game is scheduled to be played at Concordia University in Portland, but may be moved due to poor field conditions.
Evergreen and Concordia have already met twice this season with Concordia winning both games by one goal.
