Burnaby, B.C. - Two goals in the final ten minutes of play pushed the Simon Fraser University Clan men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over The Evergreen State College yesterday in a match-up of NAIA Region I rivals. The loss is the third in the past four games for the Geoducks, with all of those losses coming against teams Evergreen will possibly face should they advance to the regional tournament.

The fifth-ranked Clan tallied two goals late in the match after the two teams battled evenly for the first 80 minutes of the contest. Joaquin Escoto grabbed the game-winner in the 81 st minute after receiving a pass from Nathan Quan. Escoto danced past an Evergreen defender inside the box and slotted a shot past Evergreen goalkeeper Shawn Oliver to give SFU the lead.

Four minutes lated Lucas Barrett iced the game with an outstanding individual effort. Barrett took a pass from his goalkeeper at midfield, beat three Geoduck defenders and put a shot past Oliver and into the back of the net.

The Clan outshot Evergreen 12-7, while both teams received three yellow cards each.

The loss moves Evergreen to 11-5 on the season with two pivotal conference matches remaining. The Geoducks currently sit in third place in conference play behind Concordia University and Albertson College. Those two teams face each other this week, while Evergreen hosts Warner Pacific College Thursday at 3:00 p.m. and then travels to Corban College Saturday to cap regular-season play.
