Contact: Erik Snyder (360) 867-6537 October 20, 2005PORTLAND, Ore.—Evergreen surrendered a goal with six minutes to play to fall for the second time this season to the Concordia Cavaliers. The first contest was decided in overtime, and the Geoducks came out of the gate looking to avenge the loss. Evergreen out-shot the Cavaliers 19-7 in the game including a 9-2 spread in the first period. Despite Evergreen's pressure on goal, neither team could stretch the net in the first half and the game looked like it might be a repeat of the first low scoring affair. But the second stanza produced five goals, four of which came in an eight-minute span. Evergreen took the lead in the 57 th minute as Trevor Jacka scored the first of his two goals in the game. The junior forward put a Greg Preciado pass past Concordia goalkeeper Garrett Staples to give Evergreen the lead. But Skyler Kimball countered with a header 64 seconds later to equalize the game. Jacka put Evergreen back in front 2-1 just two minutes later, as he pounced on the rebound of a shot which escaped the grasp of CU keeper Garrett Staples. But the Cavaliers would strike right back to tie the contest. Four minutes after falling behind for a second time, Mirzet Sacirovic drove a free kick from just inside the midfield stripe deep into the 18-yard box, where Luis Garcia was able to get a head on the ball and flick it past Evergreen's Sean Oliver for a 2-2 score. Concordia would gain an advantage in the 69 th minute, as Evergreen was reduced to ten men following a red card to forward Kyle Andrews. But the Geoducks kept CU's offensive attacks under control, until Sacirovic created the game-winner in the 84 th minute. The freshman midfielder deflected an attempted clearing pass by the Evergreen defense, and played the ball forward, where he was able to run on to it for a one-on-one against Oliver. Sacirovic drew the keeper out, and slotted the ball home to the right side of the net. Evergreen came inches away from sending the game into extra time, as Ryan Dey's header from a corner kick with 75 seconds remaining clanged off the bar. But the Cavaliers were able to run out the clock putting themselves in sole possession of the conference lead while Evergreen drops to third place in conference play, one game back of Albertson College. Evergreen has three conference games remaining beginning with a 11:30 home match this Saturday against Cascade College.
