CALDWELL, Idaho -- Michael Delgado scored a golden goal for the host Coyotes two minutes into the first overtime session to hand Evergreen its second conference loss of the season. The loss dropped the 18th -ranked Geoducks into a second-place tie with Albertson, one game back of Concordia University in a tight conference race.
After playing a scoreless 90 minutes that saw just five shots on goal, the Coyotes (7-7, 6-2 CCC) took advantage of the first opportunity in overtime. Alex Penrod hit a long ball upfield where Scott Ward and Geoduck keeper Sean Oliver battled for control. Ward touched the ball to the streaking Delgado, who touched the ball into the open net, setting a frenzied crowd into a celebration.
It was the second upset of a ranked team by Albertson in as many weeks - as the 'Yotes defeated then No. 18 Concordia, 2-1, last Saturday.
Evergreen (10-3, 6-2) held a 13-9 shot advantage but was unable to beat 'Yote goalkeeper Rob Erichson who recorded four saves.
Evergreen travels to Concordia Thursday for an all-important 3:00 affair with the Cavaliers.
