Contact: Erik Snyder (360) 867-6537 October 6, 2005 OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Evergreen State College men's soccer team bounced back from a heartbreaking overtime loss on Saturday to blank visiting Corban College, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon. Jason Bjorgo staked the Geoducks (8-2, 4-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference) to a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the match when scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Kyle Andrews. Evergreen, which outshot the visiting Warriors (5-5-1, 2-3) by a 21-13 margin, never looked back. In the 51st minute, senior defender Nick Mancaruso scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick by Jordan Saxman. Sixteen minutes later, after Evergreen was forced to play short-handed when freshman Ryan Kuffler was hit with his second yellow card of the match, Mancaruso scored again, this time on a crossing pass from former North Thurston High School star Trevor Jacka. The 24th -ranked Geoducks added a late goal when freshman Peter Carlisle, the last Evergreen player to enter the game, scored for the first time in his college career when he lofted a soft lob over the head of Corban goalkeeper Brett Bentley after taking a long pass from another freshman, Kenny Marrs, for the assist. Evergreen goalkeeper Sean Oliver recorded his third solo shutout of the season, making five saves - including a beauty to stop a penalty kick by the Warriors Caleb Louvier with 16 minutes left in the first half. The Geoducks travel to Portland to meet a tough Warner Pacific College team on Saturday, the return home Tuesday, October 11 at 4 p.m. to meet Northwest University, which extended Evergreen to overtime back on September 20. |
