September 9, 2004
Spokane, Wash. - Todd Sabrowski scored a goal and added a pair of assists, all in the second half, to lead Whitworth College to a 4-1 victory over visiting Evergreen State College in a non-conference men's soccer match on Thursday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
Sabrowski's goal, his third of the season, proved to be the game-winner at 63:10, giving the Pirates (2-1) a 2-1 lead. Twelve minutes later Sabrowski fired a hard shot from the top of the box that was deflected high in the air by a Geoduck defender. Niko Varlamos was there to head in the ball from right in front of the goal. Whitworth's third goal of the second half came when Sabrowski sent in a long free kick from near midfield that Sean Lambrecht headed over the Evergreen keeper at 86:26.
Lambrecht also scored Whitworth's first goal at 13:06 when he slid to knock in a short pass from Jonathan Carlson into the bottom right corner of the net. Carlson had beat his defender on the endline to set up the pass.
Evergreen State (1-2) tied the match early in the second half when Joseph Gjertsen took a pass from Thomas Arndt in the back-right side of the box and fired a shot past Whitworth keeper Kevin Bostock just inside the left post.
Bostock made one save for Whitworth. Tom Kneeshaw played the first half in goal for the Geoducks and made two stops. Sean Oliver made four saves in the second half for Evergreen.
