September 18, 2004 Portland, OR -- Junior Rob Lossett's cross in the 72nd minute goes off an Evegreen defender and into the net to break a 1-1 stalemate. The Evergreen State College mens soccer team dropped to 4-2 on the season today with a 2-1 loss to conference rival Concordia University. The Cavaliers got the game-winner in the second half when Rob Lossett's cross was deflected into the net by a Evergreen defender with the match tied at 1-1.
Concordia tallied first, as freshman forward Kyle Beck scored at the far post in the 36th minute off a feed from junior forward Luis Garcia.
Leading 1-0 at halftime, Concordia continued to apply pressure on wet field conditions, but Evergreen got the equalizer just six minutes into the second frame when Greg Preciado scored on a counter-attack with an assist from Jason Gjertsen.
The game stayed deadlocked 1-1 until Lossett's cross found the back of the Evergreen net.
Much of the game was played in between the two boxes, as Concordia tallied six shots and the Geoducks had five.
Joe Gjertsen led the Geoducks with four shots on goal and goalkeepers Tom Kneeshaw and Sean Oliver combined to make three saves.
Evergreens next match is on September 23 at western Baptist. Game time is 5:00 pm.
