October, 4 2004 CALDWELL, ID -- Dustin Crim flicked home the game-winning golden goal with 48 seconds left in the first overtime, lifting the Albertson College men's soccer team to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Evergreen before 350 fans at Symms Field. The loss dropped Evergreen from the top of the conference standings, a position they earned earlier in the week as the same Albertson squad played spoiled to league-leader Concordia University. Crim, who entered the game as a substitute with eight minutes remaining in regulation, tied the game in the 88th minute, flicking home a touch from Jason Southward after a chip from Shane Carmody. The senior would then score the game winner in the 100th minute, taking a cross inside the box from Mitch White after a Tyler Seaman throw in and beat Geoduck keeper Sean Oliver to his right. Evergreen (6-4, 4-2 CCC) took an early lead in the 23rd minute, as Joe Gjertsen chipped a ball over Coyotes keeper Ryan Huber. The Coyotes (5-2, 3-2 CCC) would answer seven minutes later, as Southward ripped a Seaman slotted ball into the net. The visitors would take momentum back in the second half, as Gjertsen took advantage of a missed 'Yote defensive assignment and ripped a shot into the upper "V". Albertson would have chances, missing open shots in the 77th, 81st, and 84th minute, before Crim's equalizer The two goals for Gjertsen were his fourth and fifth of the week after he netted a hat trick against Northwest College on Tuesday. Evergreen was outshot by the 'Yotes 17-13 on the day. Albertson also held an edge in corners 4-3. Evergreen next hosts Concordia in a crucial re-match for both teams. Concordia bested the Geoducks earlier in the season in Portland as Evergreen scored an own goal to surrender the match 2-1. Concordia currently leads the conference followed by Albertson and Evergreen. The match is slated for Oct. 7th at 4:00 p.m.. |
