With three starters on the sidelines injured Geoducks do not have enough firepower to clinch playoff spot. OLYMPIA, Wa - Today's game against the visiting Albertson College Coyotes was just as memorable as Evergreen's Sep 22nd trip to Caldwell, Idaho. Both had significant meaning.

Ironically both games were literally carbon copies of each other, one team scoring early, then adding an insurance goal, and the other team madly scrambling to get the ball into the net and put the game into overtime.

On this stage it was Albertson that emerged the victor, 2-1, as Coe Michaelson and John Mitchell gave the Coyotes a 2-0 advantage that the Geoducks were not able to make up.

"We played very well today," said Evergreen Co-Head Coaches Tom Boatright and Andy Hill. "Everything we taught and worked on this season was used on the field."

Evergreen's lone goal came from junior transfer Jason Gjertsen (Tacoma, Wa/Wilson H.S.) in the 84th minute, who currently leads the Geoducks with 10 goals and 7 assists.

Gjerston did not see action until three minutes left in the 1st half, having strained a ligament in a lopsided 8-4 loss to Northwest on Tuesday.

Also absent from the game was Evergreen junior forward Chris Pugh (Lacey, Wa/North Thurston H.S.) and sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Kneeshaw (Eatonville, Wa/Eatonville H.S.). Pugh severely sprained his left knee in a 3-0 loss at Warner Pacific on Oct 12th. Kneeshaw sprained his right ankle Tuesday, the same game that hobbled Gjertson.

If Evergreen qualifies as the fourth and final team for the Cascade Conference Men's Soccer Tournament it is anticipated that both Kneeshaw and Pugh will be ready to play.

With no conference games remaining on the schedule, Evergreen must rely upon Albertson in order to make post-season play. With 5 wins, 6 losses, and 15 points Albertson must beat Northwest tomorrow in Kirkland. Northwest currently sits in fifth place, with 4 win, 7 losses, and 12 points. A win by Northwest would give them an identical record as Evergreen and a berth in the conference tournament. Because, Northwest beat 4-2 on Sep 17 at Evergreen and won 8-4 Tuesday in Kirkland.

One game remains on the regular season schedule for Evergreen. This Tuesday they travel to Bellingham, Wa., to take on NCAA Div. II opponent Western Washington. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
