Lumberjacks Cut Down Evergreen
September 9, 2001
Humboldt State Downs Geoducks 5-1
Olympia, Wash. - Evergreen continues to struggle to find offensive fire power. For the second game in a row, the Geoducks have been out-shot by a lopsided total (37-12). In the past two games, the Evergreen men have only managed 18 shots and only seven of those have been on goal.
Humboldt State (3-4) started the scoring early with a goal by Grant Dubois in the third minute of the game. The Geoducks (1-3) tied the game on a penalty kick by Nick Valentine (Steilacoom, Wash./ Tacoma CC). The penalty kick was a result of a hand ball in the box. Just over a minute later the Lumberjacks took the lead for good off of a bender from Zac Herndon.
One bright spot for the Geoducks was the brilliant play of Evergreen keeper Tom Kneeshaw (Eatonville, Wash./Eatonville HS). Kneeshaw faced 37 shots and had 19 saves, including an athletic stop on a penalty kick by the Lumberjacks. Kneeshaw also stopped a flurry of shots from close range late in the first half that helped keep the Geoducks within striking distance.
Evergreen will take the field on Friday the 14th against Northwest Nazarene. The game will be at 1:00 pm on the Evergreen Campus.
