SEPTEMBER 23, 2001 Evergreen too tough for Walla Walla Olympia, Wash. - Evergreen had something to prove in today's game. It had to prove that the 5-0 victory last week against Walla Walla was not a fluke. They accomplished it. For the second time in eight days, the Geoducks and Wolves faced off in Olympia, the result was very similar in each game, a dominant Evergreen performance and victory. Evergreen (1-2, 3-5) started the game off with an up-tempo attack, firing shots against the Wolves early and often. The Geoducks did not capitalize on their shots until the 21st minute of the game. Off of a corner kick, Kinnan Murray (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel HS) scored a header goal off of a perfect crossing pass from Justin Connell (Sequim, Wash./ Sequim HS). Murray and Connell both had big games for the Geoducks. Murray finished the game with two goals and an assist, while Connell had one goal to go along with 2 assists. Evergreen also came up big with tough defense, Walla Walla only got off nine shots in the game. The Geoducks had a very balanced attack on the offensive end. Evergreen fired 31 shots at Walla Walla goalie Greg Eiseman who had 11 saves in the game. Ryan Schechert (Poulsbo, Wash./ North Kitsap HS) also had a great day coming off the bench for the Geoducks. Schechert scored the first goal of the second half for the Geoducks and added his second of the game with about four minutes to go in the contest. The Geoducks will take to the road next weekend to play two Cascade Conference games. On Friday the Geoducks will be at Western Baptist (Ore.) to play a 4:00 p.m. game.
