Evergreen Can't Hold Off Albertson |

SEPTEMBER 22, 2001 'Yotes beat Geoducks 3-1 Olympia, Wash. - Evergreen scored first on a penalty kick by junior Jimmy Nagle (Bainbridge Is., Wash./ Univ. of Portland) and it looked as if that would be all that the Geoducks (1-2, 2-5) would need to upset the Coyotes , but the second half was all Albertson. Evergreen seemed to be in control for most of the first half, not giving Albertson (2-0, 5-1) many scoring opportunities, but the unusually warm weather and the 'Yotes attack eventually overcame the Geoducks. With roughly ten minutes into the second half the 'Yotes scored on a goal from Jason Southward. Both teams were battling for the go ahead goal when Albertson was awarded a penalty kick of their own that Ryan Masingill converted in the 72nd minute. The Geoducks struggled to get back into the game after that point as Albertson added another goal just five minutes later. The game was a physical one, which tends to be the case with this Geoduck team. Evergreen committed 21 fouls while Albertson had nine of their own. Six yellow cards were issued during the game. Both goalies faced their fare share of abuse during the game facing on-coming rushes and shot attempts from very close range. The Geoducks will try to get back in the win column on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when they face Walla Walla for the second time at home this season.
