SEPTEMBER 1, 2001 Brueggeman records hat trick as Mustangs stop Evergreen 8-1 OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The winning feeling lasted just five days for The Evergreen State College men's soccer team, as The Master's College swept into the Capitol City and stomped the Clams, 8-1. The Mustangs (5-0) from Santa Clarita, Calif. scored five minutes into the contest and were never headed. Forward Anthon Brueggeman took a cross from Tim McConnell and drove a hard ball with the left foot past Geoduck keeper Tom Kneeshaw (Eatonville, Wash. / Eatonville HS) for the first of his three goals. The senior from Glendale, Ariz., scored season goals No. 7 and 8 during the first six minutes of the second half, as the Mustangs pressured the Geoducks, who were playing a man down. Starting forward Brian Cook (Cape Girardeau, Mo. / Skagit Valley CC) received two yellow cards in the first half and was ejected. Argentina native Marcos Bongarra added a goal and three assists for the victors. Keeper Eric Pattison recorded four saves on eight Evergreen shots for the victory. Evergreen (1-1), which ended a 33-game losing streak on Monday, was outshot by the visitors, 32-8. The Geoducks tallied their only goal of the game in the 70th minute, as a TMC defender chipped a ball over the head of back-up keeper Brian Bentzinger. The goal was the first the Mustangs have given up since their season opening 3-2 victory over Westminster of Utah. This was the first meeting between the schools since 1989, when TMC defeated Evergreen, 3-2.
