PORTLAND, Ore.  – Playing their final road game of the 2010-11 season, the Evergreen Geoducks couldn’t overcome a solid-shooting Concordia team as the host Cavaliers picked up an 88-76 win  in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night in Portland, Ore.

The Cavaliers (11-16, 5-11 CCC) took the initial lead as CU scored the first six points of the game.  Senior Josh Troyer (Vancouver, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) got the Geoducks (8-18, 5-11 CCC) on the scoreboard with a three-pointer with 16:34 left to play in the opening period.  Evergreen got within one with 11:14 left in the first half as Johnny Sarysz (Seattle, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) hit a three to put the score at 14-13 in favor of CU.  Unfortunately, for Evergreen, Concordia finished the half strong, taking a 40-29 lead into the break.

Things looked up for the Geoducks in the second half as they opened the period with a 16-2 run that put them up by three, 45-42.  Momentum shifted back in favor of the Cavs as CU retook the lead as Evergreen was forced to play from behind.  The Concordia lead hit double-digits again with 1:35 remaining as Jourdan Sweeney hit a pair of free throws to put CU up, 80-69, and the host Cavs would cruise the rest of the way, picking up the 88-76  victory.

The Geoducks were led by 20 points from Troyer, who played 39 of 40 minutes for Evergreen.  Mikey Hope (Tacoma, Wash./Wilson HS) added 14 points while Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC) chipped in 11 points.  Marice Tolliver (Tacoma, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) chalked up 11 in the losing effort.

Concordia was paced by 28 points and 11 rebounds from Sweeney.  Adam Herman scored 17 while Dustin Hiebert chipped in 15 in the win.  The Cavaliers shot 58% from the field, including 67% from behind the arc.
