Geoducks numbers add up to a win again, 84-71 over Beacons
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The box score of Friday night's 84-71 Evergreen State College men's basketball win over Northwest Christian University at the Greenhouse had a familiar ring to it:
Nate Menefee led the Geoducks in scoring with 22 points and Anthony Gallagher again backed him up with a solid 19 point outing. Julio Feliciano continued to be an effective "point center" snatching 11 rebounds like the strong post player he is, but also dishing off a game-high eight assists to go with his nine points.
Its been a winning formula for Evergreen (15-6, 8-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference) this season and, this time, got the Geoducks out to a 17-point second half lead before NCU (8-14, 3-7) rallied down the stretch to make the final score a bit closer. The win assured Evergreen of retaining a share of what may still be a three-way tie for the conference lead -- Oregon Tech's 72-67 victory over Eastern Oregon at least temporarily knocks the Mountaineers into fourth place.
Ben Voogd led the Beacons with 20 points to go with five rebounds and six assists while Andrew Miller scored 14 and Quentin Guidry 10.
Evergreen hosts Corban College on Saturday night while Northwest Christian heads up the road to Kirkland to meet its near-namesake, Northwest University.
