Menefee scores 39 as Evergreen breezes past Southern, 105-69
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Nate Menefee connected for his sixth 30-point-plus game of the season as The Evergreen State College men's basketball team downed Southern Oregon University, 105-69, on Friday night at the Greenhouse to set up a tough battle with #5 Oregon Tech, which comes to Evergreen having knocked Northwest University out of its share of first place.The Owls defeated Northwest, 64-57, on the road Friday night.
Evergreen led by 11 at the half and erased most doubt with a 24-11 run to start the second that gave the Geoducks a 75-52 mark at the midpoint of the second.
With 5:21 to go, Menefee missed the first of two free throws -- had he made it he would have ended with his third career 40-point game. Anthony Gallagher, who threw down a couple of rim-rattling dunks for good measure, added 17 while Ben Wilson scored 16 and Tyrell Dixon 10. Julio Feliciano paced the game with 13 rebounds and also added seven assists and nine points.
Justonn Smith led the Raiders with 17 points on a night when their leading scorer, Jarrad Childs, was held scoreless on just three field goal attempts in 22 minutes of playing time. The Evergreen-Oregon Tech game gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
