Eagles edge out a victory over Geoducks

KIRKLAND , Wash. - Evergreen was narrowly defeated by Northwest University in a Cascade Conference contest tonight, 77-76. Northwest is currently ranked 17th in the NAIA Division II ratings.

Both teams battled through three ties and lead changes in the final 7 minutes of the game. With Northwest U. trailing 74-72 at 49 seconds to go in the game, senior Kendrick Holley hit a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Eagles ahead, 75-74. Devon Conner-Green put the Geoducks back up with his jumper with 29 seconds to go, 76-75. After a time out, Stephen Ishmael drove the lane and was fouled by Adam Moore with 5 seconds to go in the contest and Ishmael sank both free throws to put the Eagles ahead by one, 77-76. Connor-Green drive the length of the court and put up a jumper as the ball bounced off the front of the rim at the buzzer.

Evergreen (7-12, 3-6 CCC) was led by Greg Shadowvine's 20 points while teammate Moore put in 19 points. Marcus Whittaker scored 13 points for the Geoducks. The Geoducks shot 63.3% for the night and 62.5% from 3-point range in the second half.

Northwest University 16-5, 6-3 CCC was led by Ishmael's 26 points. Chris Keller scored 14 points while Northwest lost the battle on the boards as they were out rebounded by TESC, 24-22.

Playing in one of the strongest conferences in NAIA Division II, with five teams ranked in the top 25, Evergreen is showing that they can play with the best when the team comes together. The close game tonight could give the team the confidence they need to take on two very strong conference teams this coming weekend.

Evergreen will travel with the women's team to Oregon next weekend to take on Oregon Instititute of Technology (#7 NAIA, #2 CCC) on Friday the 19th and Southern Oregon University Saturday the 20th.
