Geoduck defense brings third win in a row

OLYMPIA, WA - The Evergreen State men's (9-15 overall, 5-9 CCC) defense helped to win their third straight as they defeated the Concordia University Cavaliers (15-10 overall, 6-7 CCC) in a 74-63 victory.

The Cavaliers started the game off with an eight to one run, but the Geoducks came running back and never gave the lead away the remainder of the competition. Evergreen had a remarkable 15 steals and caused 20 turnovers in comparison to the Geoduck's five turnovers Concordia's two steals. Evergreen led at the break 38-31, and came out with the same intensity in the latter half; only increasing the lead. Down by five with 3:08 remaining, the Cavaliers began fouling intentionally allowing 16 free throw attempts, the Geoducks taking advantage of 11 of those.

Evergreen had three double digit scorers tonight, Pat Mattson, led with 22 points, going 100 percent from three point land, while Doug Dietz slightly trailed with 19 and Thomas Cook chipped in 14. The Cavalier's, Michael Lay, put in 11 as Alex Hartman tied for the game high of 22 points.

The Geoducks men will once again be hosting tomorrow night, February fourth as eighth place Corban College visits the College Recreation Center , starting at 7:30 p.m.
