OLYMPIA, WA -- The Evergreen State College Geoducks can enjoy their Christmas break over the next week. Especially after their victory on Friday evening over the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 79-73.

The Geoducks (1-1 conference, 5-9 overall) jumped out to an early lead on the Lutes, and rarely trailed throughout the first half. Evergreen led by as many as 20, thanks to the team's 62% shooting (18-29). At halftime the Geoducks hugged a 15-point lead.

The first ten minutes of the second half were all Evergreen as they built the lead up to 20 once again. However, the Lutes (2-3) were able to find their way through Evergreen's full court pressure and went on a run late in the game.

Converting on fast-break lay-ups, the Lutes cut the lead to as little as three, 73-70. That's as close as it would get.

Pacific Lutheran outscored the Geoducks 46-37 in the second half, shooting 59% from the field (16-27). Fortunately, Evergreen was able to hold off the Lutes to come away with the six-point victory.

Evergreen had struggled shooting from the field recently, but that was not the case on Friday. As a team, Evergreen converted on 29 of 51 shots, shooting 56% for the game.

Mike Parker (Washington DC / Clover Park HS) led all scorers with 27 points on 10 of 16 shooting. Parker also had game highs of four steals and four blocks, and had a team high six rebounds. Evergreen had three other players score in double figures on the night. Adam Laneer (Tumwater, Wash. / Tumwater HS) scored 14 points on five of eight shooting, and also had three steals.

Haikima Moore (Dallas, Tex. / Allen HS) and Marvin Isaac (Inglewood, Cal. / Inglewood HS) both produced solid minutes for the Geoducks off the bench. Moore scored 12 points (5-8) for Evergreen, and Isaac chipped in 10 (3-6).

"It's nice to get a win again," said Evergreen Head Coach John Barbee, "going into the break this is what you want . it's been a tough first part of the season and it's now time for our guys to get some rest."

Pacific Lutheran was led by Josh Davis who scored 19 points (7-8), and Hazen Hyland who added 10 points (2-7). Kaelen Moore contributed nine points in the loss, and also had a game high 9 rebounds.

The Geoducks will have a nice break before they return to the court. They will face conference rival Albertson College on January 3rd in Caldwell, Idaho.

Evergreen will then travel to La Grande, Oregon on the fourth where they will take on Eastern Oregon, and that game will be followed by a non-conference match-up with Walla Walla College on January 6th. Evergreen will return home on January 10th to face Western Baptist College at 8 p.m.
